Sanitation: According to UNDP, 2004, Ethiopia has one of the lowest rates of sanitation in the world. Around 62 million Ethiopians live without suitable sanitation facility. Poor sanitation is often the cause of a number of preventable diseases. It also affects the dignity of hygienic practice and a clean, safe living environment.
The quality of sanitation facilities in schools is a major concern, and needs improvement. According to local sources, many schools and households are increasingly becoming accustomed to latrine usage.
To address the issue, investigation into sanitation preferences, appropriate technical choice and suitable latrine options may be required.
